Hospice of the Valleys services are delivered by a wide range of healthcare professionals who are specialists in the field of palliative care.
An important part of our services is to provide training and education to generic care staff which include: district nurses, care home staff, community hospital staff and social care staff.
Our Education Facilitator, who is also a clinical nurse specialist, is responsible for facilitating and co-ordinating both formal and informal training programmes throughout the Borough.
By educating health and social care staff on the prinicples and practice of palliative care we are ensuring that the work force responsible for providing patient care are able to deliver a high standard of palliative care.
Types of training available include:
- Accredited course in conjunction with the University of Glamorgan at level 5 and/or 6
- Full day training course available for HCA and social carers in conjunction with Social Services.
We offer student placements for social work, medical and nursing students through the universities of Cardiff and Glamorgan, and in-service training for care staff on a wide range of topics including:
- Pain and Symptom Management
- Advanced Care Planning
- End of Life Care and the Concept of the ‘Care Priorities Pathway’ Document for Last Days of Life
- Grief and Loss
