Hospice of the Valleys services are delivered by a wide range of healthcare professionals who are specialists in the field of palliative care. An important part of our services is to provide training and education to all health and social care professionals who care for patients with palliative care needs.
Our Education Facilitator, who is also a clinical nurse specialist, in conjunction with other members of the multidisciplinary team is responsible for facilitating and co-ordinating both formal and informal training programmes throughout the Borough.
By educating health and social care staff on the prinicples and practice of palliative care we are ensuring that the work force responsible for providing patient care are able to deliver a high standard of palliative care.
Types of training available include:
- A bite size 10 credit module in the “Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Palliative and End of Life Care” in with the University of South Wales University at level 5 and/or 6
- Full day training course on “The Principles and Practice of Palliative and End of Life Care” for health care support workers and social carers. This training is run through partenership working with the Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly Borough Social Services Training and Development Workforce Department.
We offer student placements for social work, medical, nursing and complimentary therapy students through the universities of Cardiff, South Wales and Cardiff Metropolitan.
We also run a bi-monthly Link Group for health care professionals from a range of disciplines throughout Blaenau Gwent with representatives from; district nurses, community hospitals, Care Homes and the Community Resource Team.
